A vibrant poster exhibition at Unisa's main campus traces the seven-decade journey of Unisa Press, from its beginnings in 1956 to its emergence as Africa’s largest academic publisher.
As Unisa Press celebrates 70 years of publishing excellence and Library and Information Services marks 80 years of advancing access to knowledge, Professor Puleng LenkaBula reflects on a 150-year legacy and challenges the university to ensure these institutions remain influential in the digital knowledge economy.
Headed by Dr Meiya Nthoesane, Director, the Unisa Press team has embarked on an exciting initiative to assist academic researchers to reframe their doctoral theses as books, thus enabling them to reach a wider readership and establish themselves globally as authorities in their fields of endeavour.
Launched by the university’s academic publishing arm as part of Research and Innovation Week 2026, Between Hope and Vigilancecollection of essays by Mavuso Msimang, serves as a timely reminder of the values that defined the liberation movement, and is presented with equal parts empathy, rage and love.
