1. InnovationSense™ Intellectual Property and Innovation Workshops - "Be IP smart"

The InnovationSense™ Intellectual Property (IP) and Innovation awareness workshops are an initiative of the Directorate of Innovation, Technology Transfer and Commercialisation (DITTC) at UNISA. The DITTC is responsible for, among others, the management and commercialization of IP emanating from the University’s Research and Innovation activities.

Topics to be covered include;

  • National System of Innovation
  • Different forms of Intellectual Property protection
  • The Intellectual Property Rights emanating for Publicly Financed Research and Development (IPR Act)
  • The Unisa IP Policy and the services of the DITTC
  • Commercialisation routes
  • Case studies – IP Management and commercialization of IP
  • Funding for Innovative Projects
  • Biodiversity Act
  • Entrepreneurship training for start-ups and innovators

Who should attend?

Researchers, supervisors, postgraduate students, postdoc fellows, administrative staff involved in research or providing support to researchers.

The workshop will provide participants with;

  • the basics of intellectual property (IP) and what is its role in innovation, 
  • tools for identifying IP in your work, 
  • breakdown of key issues in Unisa's IP policy,
  • the role of Unisa's Technology Transfer Office in supporting the identification, protection and commercialisation of the university's IP into useful products and services in the market and solutions to societal problems.

Innovators Entrepreneurship Workshop

The DITTC invites all registered Unisa students (undergraduate and postgraduate) and staff members to attend the Innovators Entrepreneurship Workshop to be held at the UNISA Muckleneuk and Florida campuses in 2020. The workshops will be facilitated by business development experts and will run over a period of 7 weeks.

2. Innovation In Action Lecture Series

The Innovation-In-Action Lecture Series is a lunch – time presentation on specific IP topics. This platform offers UNISA staff and students an opportunity to discuss and debate various "hot" topics on innovation and IP. Series dates will be posted.
