Directorate of Innovation, Technology Transfer and Commercialisation
About us
The DITTC was established in 2011, partly to give effect to Unisa’s obligations under the IPR Act of 2008 and, notably, to support the progressive realisation of this university’s vision. In particular, the remit of the DITTC is to help meet Unisa’s strategic goals by supporting and facilitating the establishment of an environment conducive to research and innovation (R&I) and by protecting and deriving value from IP emanating from Unisa’s R&D activities.
Vision
Leading the effective and efficient transfer of Unisa technologies for the benefit of society and humanity
Mission
The DITTC strives to achieve the following:
Assist Unisa researchers to make an impact on society through the development and protection of, and the benefits derived from IP;
Facilitate the establishment of private-public partnerships for incubation and commercialisation purposes;
Promote and facilitate innovation through relevant and appropriate programmes designed to engage staff and students at the university;
Create a shared understanding of IP, innovation, and the policy and social imperatives that support the focus on innovation (including legislation and policy drivers); and
Comply with Unisa’s legislative obligations flowing from the IPR Act.
