Unisa Council

As Africa's largest open distance learning institution, Unisa prides itself on its sound and transparent corporate governance. In an effort to systematically inculcate this level of corporate governance in the institution, establishing Unisa as a leader in sound corporate governance features as a key goal in the university's strategy.

While areas like ethics and conflict management are managed by a series of policies and processes, the process of governing the university as a whole is managed by the Unisa Council.

Council governs the university in accordance with the law and generally recognised principles of good governance.

In addition, Council also

  • provides effective leadership based on an ethical foundation.
  • retains full and effective control over the university and is responsible for monitoring management in respect of implementation of plans and strategies.
  • ensures that the university is and is seen to be a responsible corporate citizen in its governance function.
  • determines the strategic direction of the university.
  • plays a critical role in developing of the strategic plan of the university.
  • is responsible for information technology governance.
  • approves the policies of the university.
  • develops a code of conduct.

Umkhandlu we-Unisa

Njengesikhungo esikhulu kunazo zonke e-Afrika sendlela yokuhlinzeka ngamathuba okufunda aguquguqukayo, i-Unisa izishaya isifuba ngokubusa kwayo ngokuhlanganyela okuzwakalayo nokungafihli lutho. Unisa-raad

As Afrika se grootste oop afstandsleerinstelling is Unisa trots op sy sterk en deursigtige korporatiewe bestuurstoesig. Ten einde hierdie vlak van korporatiewe bestuurstoesig stelselmatig in die instelling te verstewig, is die vestiging van Unisa as ’n leier op die gebied van goeie korporatiewe bestuurstoesig ’n hoofdoelwit in die universiteit se strategie.

Aspekte soos etiek en konflikbestuur word ingevolge ’n stel beleide en prosedures bestuur, en die universiteit in sy geheel word deur die Unisa-raad bestuur.

Die Unisa-raad bestuur die universiteit in ooreenstemming met die reg en algemeen erkende beginsels van goeie bestuur.

Die Unisa-raad  

  • bied doeltreffende leierskap ooreenkomstig etiese beginsels
  • oefen volle en effektiewe beheer oor die universiteit uit en is verantwoordelik daarvoor om die bestuur ten opsigte van die implementering van planne en strategieë te monitor  
  • sien toe dat die universiteit ’n verantwoordelike korporatiewe burger in die uitvoering van die bestuurstoesigfunksie is en as sodanig erken word
  • bepaal die strategiese rigting van die universiteit
  • speel ’n kritieke rol in die ontwikkeling van die strategiese plan van die universiteit
  • is verantwoordelik vir inligtingstegnologiebestuur
  • keur die beleide van die universiteit goed
  • ontwikkel ’n gedragskode
