Innovation Support

In its goal to build a research culture at Unisa, the Directorate Innovation, Technology Transfer and Commercialisation (DITTC) offers student support programmes which provide seed funding and mentoring for innovative research projects to staff or academic associates.

In both cases, preference is given to collaborative or joint research projects that are multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary in nature.

Talent Innovation Programme

The Talent Innovation Programme (TIP), aims to stimulate and support the development of high-quality innovative student projects which seek to provide solutions the challenges that society faces.

Seed funding for innovative solutions to societal problems in the form of grants are awarded on an annual basis to twenty student projects deemed the most innovative.

Besides the grant, the top three winners will form part of a delegation to India’s University of Mumbai as part of the Gandhi Inspired Student Exchange Programme.

Innovation Support Programme

This programme is designed to support research projects by staff that are directed at providing innovative solutions to challenges that society faces.

Seed funding for novel or innovative solutions to research problems in the form of grants will be awarded on an annual basis to ten research projects deemed most innovative in all disciplines.

Each project will be funded in accordance with its project budget up to a maximum amount of R100 000.00 per project.

Innovators Entrepreneurship Training Workshops

The programme is open to all registered students and staff members who have an innovative idea and interested in starting up a business.

The workshops will be facilitated by business development experts and will run over a period of 7 weeks with the first session commencing on July 23 at the Unisa, Florida campus. For more details, see programme overview and workshop schedule below.
