Delivering the keynote address at the 2026 International Conference on Technical and Vocational Education and Training, hosted by Unisa, the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, the Honourable Dr Nomusa Dube-Ncube, said that Africa’s youthful population presents a unique opportunity, but this requires aligning education outputs with labour-market demand.
In a defining moment for South Africa’s skills development landscape, Unisa has unveiled a UNESCO International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (UNEVOC) at its Science Campus, positioning itself within a powerful global network committed to transforming technical and vocational education for a rapidly changing world.
The university and the Special Investigating Unit recently entered into an agreement to collaborate in critical areas, with a particular emphasis on building specialised skills to address financial crimes in South Africa.
Led by Prof Puleng LenkaBula, Principal and Vice-Chancellor, the university's executive management recently briefed the media on Unisa's achievements, partnerships and the acceleration of its systems and architecture over the past five years.
The three-day engagement allowed both institutions to evaluate their operational processes and practices within the distance education space, and identify areas for improvement.
