Research collaborations: Mobile universities

This project is a collaboration between The Albert Luthuli Research Chair (UNISA), Gender and Women’s Studies Centre (Nelson Mandela University), department of Political Sciences (Rhodes University), and the department of English Studies (University of Pretoria). The collaboration is a response to the question: what do we consider to be meaningful feminist access and success?

While there’s been a generation of scholars who have been pathfinders who have opened many doors for the current generation this project has the opportunity to account for feminist success (beyond access which has been achieved by and large). This calls for a need to continue mapping feminist success in higher education not only in South Africa but in the rest of the continent.

This is an opportunity to take stock of the gains that have been made in higher education. African feminisms is the theoretical underpinning of this collaboration. This is to recognise the diversity of voices in scholarship which can take into account the complexity of African realities.
