Chief Albert Luthuli Research Chair

About

As part of its recognition of Luthuli’s role in fighting for liberation and peace globally, Unisa made a formal commitment to honour his memory and legacy through the establishment of a Research Chair, as well a progressive partnership with the Luthuli Museum. As an institution that takes seriously the project of decolonisation and Africanisation, Unisa’s vision connects with Chief Luthuli’s vision of forging global solidarities and striving for social justice and equality for all.

The Chief Albert Luthuli Research Chair will afford a space for critical engagement between established and emerging scholars that seek to radicalise the academic space and critically think and engage with ways in which Africa and its challenges and possibilities could be tackled. The Chair will engage with diverse voices that may assist in providing a vocabulary that could be used to deal with socio-political, cultural, and historical issues that make themselves visible in the current moment.
