Mosibudi Ramoroka
For many working professionals, the idea of going back to school while maintaining a full-time job can seem impossible. For Mosibudi Ramoroka, Secretary to Dr Mantepu MaseTshaba, the Acting Executive Dean in the College of Economic and Management Sciences (CEMS) at Unisa, it became a personal mission.
This year, Ramoroka celebrated a significant milestone: completing her BCom Honours in Business Management. Reflecting on her achievement, she says, "Reaching this point is a great feeling. It’s a mix of pride and excitement. Despite all the obstacles along the way, it was all worth it."
Her passion for understanding business dynamics drove her to pursue further studies.
She says she has always been fascinated by how businesses work, why some succeed and others fail. "I wanted to gain deeper knowledge in management, leadership and business strategy," Ramoroka adds.
Balancing a demanding role with academic responsibilities was no small feat. She adopted a structured, disciplined approach. She created detailed daily schedules, relied on to-do lists and ensured open communication with her line manager to block out study time when necessary. "Balancing work and study can be challenging, but prioritising my schedule and planning ahead made it manageable," she says.
Time management was a key challenge, but the Limpopo-born Ramoroka overcame it with focus and perseverance. Her advice to others considering returning to school is simple: "Prioritise time management and stay motivated by focusing on how education will enhance your career and personal growth."
Her qualification not only marks a personal victory but also opens doors to future opportunities. Having worked closely with leadership, Ramoroka has seen the impact of ongoing education firsthand. "Continuous learning encourages critical thinking and flexibility, qualities that make leaders more effective and valued in the workplace," she says.
And what’s next for this accomplished professional? With a twinkle in her eye, she laughs, "I can’t reveal my next steps just yet, but sooner or later, I’ll have to change my title from Ms to Dr".
Ramoroka’s story is a testament to the power of determination, planning and lifelong learning. She proves that even in a busy professional life, achieving academic goals is possible and rewarding.
