What's new for 2026?

  • All registered master's and doctoral students must attend the compulsory African Academic Support Programme
  • Applicants will now be able to track the status of their master's and doctoral application.
  • If you obtained your qualifications outside the borders of South Africa, please take note of the following: (i) The qualification that will give you admission to your qualification of choice must be evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA); (ii) You may apply for admission without a SAQA certificate of evaluation; (iii) If you application for admission is accepted, you may register, but you will need to submit the SAQA certificate of evaluation before re-registering for the next academic year; and (iv) You can apply for the SAQA certificate of evaluation on https://www.saqa.org.za 
  • The Thabo Mbeki School is offering two qualifications from 2026, the MA in Public Policy and International Affairs (qualification code 90192; SAQA ID 124565) and the PhD Public Policy and International Affairs (qualification code 90193; SAQA ID 124591). The qualifications are available on the online platform, although they are not yet displaying on the qualifications webpage.  
  • Students who are registered for a coursework master's degree and who intend to register for the research proposal module in the next academic year, must submit a one to two-page research outline to the Chair of Department by 30 September for the working title to be approved and for a supervisor to be appointed.
