Who must register?

  • Applicants may only register once they have received confirmation from Unisa that their application for admission has been accepted.
  • Re-registering students (who made sufficient progress during the current academic year) and students who officially deferred their studies must register online during the approved registration period.
  • Coursework master's students who passed the research proposal module in 2025 may re-register for the 2026 academic year. If your research proposal result is not available when registration opens, please wait for formal communication from the Master's and Doctoral Administration Support Section before attempting to register for the research component mini-dissertation.
  • Should you wish to start a new qualification, please apply online for admission during the next application period or check whether the qualification for which you intend to apply is on the list of qualifications that you can apply for until the end of June 2026.

Online registration guidelines

Unisa's online registration process is quick and simple. Follow these steps to ensure that your registration is submitted successfully.

  1. Enter your student number in the block provided and follow the links.
  2. Check your contact details on the screen and change any details that are incorrect.
  3. Enter the module(s) for which you want to register. Ensure that you meet all the pre-requisites and co-requisites for the module(s) you have selected. Also ensure that you have correctly entered the module code(s). Research master's students must select the dissertation module. Doctoral students must select the thesis module.
Important: Research master's students must select the dissertation module at the point of registration. Doctoral students must select the thesis module at the point of registration.
  4. If you select structured / coursework master's degree modules, please check Unisa's provisional examination timetable to ensure that there are no examination date clashes.
  5. If you submit your registration without payment, you will be temporarily registered, but your registration will not be finalised until the university has received the minimum registration fee within the relevant registration period (ie you will only be registered once Unisa has received your study fees). The fee information / minimum amount payable relevant to your qualification will be displayed once you have completed your online registration process.
  6. If you have applied for funding, but it has not yet been approved or allocated, you are advised to pay the minimum study fees so that your registration can be finalised. You can request a refund from Finance once your bursary is approved.
