The Communication Students’ Association (COMSA) organised a successful induction ceremony on 29 April 2026 at Unisa’s Polokwane Campus. The event was designed to bring its Polokwane branch back to life and drew university administration and students who support COMSA, known for creating communication professionals.

Speaking at the event's opening, Malose Mokwatedi, Communication and Marketing Manager at Unisa’s North Eastern Region, stressed the need for students to be part of the association. "I would like to congratulate the elected COMSA executive committee and wish them success in taking COMSA to the next level," he added.

Dr Edgar Malatji, Acting Chair of the Department of Communication Science, expressed the department's willingness to partner with COMSA. "Our relationship has been honourable and profound for more than three decades," he stated, emphasising the department’s willingness to extend assistance to COMSA in all respects. "Resurrection of the COMSA Polokwane branch marks a new dawn for Unisa students."

According to Prof Khathija Khan, founder of COMSA, the association's contribution to the growth of the communication field is noteworthy. She urged COMSA alumni to play an even greater role in developing South Africa's economy by helping their juniors through mentorship and internships.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the event was the testimony of one of the department's lecturers, Phumudzo Ratshinanga, about the contribution of COMSA to making her who she is today. COMSA played a significant role in introducing her to various influential people, including former President Thabo Mbeki. Further, she noted that joining COMSA helps students get ready for their future professions.

The revival of the COMSA Polokwane Branch is indeed a great move for the Unisa family, as students now have many opportunities to become professionally engaged in the field of communications.
