Gauteng RSRC graduates make their mark

In a proud and symbolic moment for student leadership, two distinguished members of Unisa’s Gauteng Regional Student Representative Council (RSRC) graduated with Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degrees this June. Siyathokoza Nkwanyana, Chairperson of the Johannesburg RSRC, and Tania Molapo, Chairperson of the Tshwane RSRC, crossed the graduation stage at the 2025 #UnisaAutumnGraduations, marking a significant milestone in both their academic and leadership journeys.

As torchbearers of student activism and academic excellence, Siyathokoza and Tania exemplify the true spirit of determination, resilience and service. Balancing the rigours of legal studies with the demands of student governance, their achievement sends a powerful message to the Unisa community: leadership and education can and should go hand in hand.

Throughout their tenure, both leaders were known for their unwavering commitment to student welfare, academic justice and institutional transformation. Under their guidance, regional SRC structures not only thrived but also led important dialogues on access to education, support for remote learners and the empowerment of underrepresented voices.

Siyathokoza, a firm believer in transformative justice, views education as the foundation for building a just society. Growing up in a disadvantaged background, he witnessed firsthand the struggles of those without access to legal representation – an experience that inspired him to pursue a career in law. His passion for justice, especially for marginalised communities, fuels his commitment to advocacy and academic excellence. He consistently earned distinctions in key modules and is currently pursuing his LLM, aspiring to become an academic, mentor and advocate for legal reform. Despite financial hardship and limited resources, he demonstrated perseverance and leadership, gaining invaluable skills that he now uses to empower others.

Their graduation is more than a personal victory – it is a beacon of hope and inspiration for many Unisa students across South Africa. It reinforces the message that success is attainable, even in the face of immense pressure and competing responsibilities.

As they embark on the next chapter, whether in the courtroom, community service or continued activism, the legacy of these two leaders will remain etched in the hearts of those they served. Unisa salutes their achievements and celebrates the bright futures that lie ahead.
