Teachers from Vhembe East and Vhembe West heeded a call to participate in the Life Orientation Educators' Workshop offered by Unisa’s North Eastern Region

The North Eastern Region recently delivered an empowering workshop for Life Orientation educators from both Vhembe East and Vhembe West districts. The workshop was attended by teachers and officials from the Limpopo Provincial Department of Education and Unisa representatives from the North Eastern Region, the College of Education (CEDU) and the Directorate: Counselling and Career Development (DCCD).

The event's purpose was, among others, to equip Life Orientation educators with the knowledge to prepare learners for higher education; to share insights and experiences regarding career opportunities for both educators and learners; and to provide guidance on managing learners in challenging environments or situations.

The Limpopo Department of Education suggested most of the topics covered during earlier discussions with the North Eastern Region team. These included online safety, mental health, sexuality education and the latest trends in education.

Dr Lesiba Molepo welcomes participants to the Life Orientation Educators Workshop

In his welcoming address, Dr Lesiba Molepo, Acting Regional Director, highlighted the technological era in which learners are expected to apply online, study online and be assessed online.

"Our educators are therefore given a daunting task of ensuring that amid all these challenges, they guide learners to adapt and succeed despite the evident digital divide in our country," he said. He encouraged teachers to actively engage with the workshop presenters on the programme topics, so that they, in turn, can be empowered to support and manage their learners effectively.
