Unisa academics from several departments participate in the GetOn Community Outreach Project, which has been running since 2014.
The GetOn Skills Development Centre is an independent, not-for-profit NGO, located in Pretoria West, that provides unemployed adults from disadvantaged communities with market-oriented skills courses and job-placement opportunities. These include point-of-sales, office administration, computer literacy, barista, and baking-for-profit courses. The Centre’s business incubation hub also assists some students to begin and run small businesses. The Unisa lecturers involved in the GetOn Project voluntarily donate their time and expertise to develop the GetOn library and to facilitate the students’ acquisition of job-seeking, language, literacy and information skills.
