The Department of Afrikaans and Theory of Literature is the largest department of its kind in the world. The department boasts with a wide variety of module offerings ranging from Afrikaans literature, applied language studies, creative writing and theory of literature. We are the only department with a subsection on theory of literature where students are exposed to the current issues and debates in literary studies. Our vibrant Afrikaans literature and linguistics offerings expose students to modules such as ecocriticism, youth literature, gender and queer studies, persuasive texts, language variation and text skills for the communication industry. Our students are guided by highly qualified and experienced lecturers that equip students with the relevant knowledge and skills for the career industry.
