Reimagining Africa’s Knowledge Future in the Digital Age

The Advancing African Digital Humanities Ideation Hub (AADHiH) Community of Practice (CoP) is a strategic intellectual space within the University of South Africa (UNISA) dedicated to advancing African-centred Digital Humanities (DH) scholarship.

The AADHiH CoP brings together academics, researchers, students, technologists, cultural practitioners, and industry partners who are committed to reimagining how digital technologies intersect with African knowledge systems, pedagogy, research, and content creation.

Purpose of the Community of Practice

The AADHiH CoP seeks to:

• Foster critical discourse on African Digital Humanities.
• Promote interdisciplinary collaboration across colleges and institutions.
• Advance African-centred epistemologies in digital spaces.
• Support innovation in teaching, researching, and knowledge production.
• Encourage ethical, inclusive, and contextually responsive use of emerging technologies (including AI, digital storytelling, spatial humanities, and digital archiving).

The Community of Practice operates as part of the broader Advancing African Digital Humanities (AADH) Project, which aligns with UNISA’s strategic priorities on digital transformation, technology-mediated learning, and 4IR/5IR readiness.

• Access to announcements about bootcamps, masterclasses, and summits.
• Opportunities for interdisciplinary networking.

• A space to co-develop African Digital Humanities initiatives within and beyond UNISA.
