BaobabX Academy

A flagship capacity-building initiative of the Advancing African Digital Humanities Ideation Hub (AADHiH) is to equip African scholars, educators, and researchers with the knowledge and skills to engage critically, creatively, and contextually with digital technologies in the humanities. The programme unfolds across three progressive levels, each designed to strengthen digital fluency, foster decolonial thinking, and promote interdisciplinary collaboration.

Delivery Approach: Each component of the training is offered through a HyFlex delivery model, ensuring accessibility and inclusion for all participants: Face-to-face (on-campus workshops and labs), Online synchronous (real-time interactive sessions), and Online asynchronous (self-paced learning modules and digital resources).

Level 1: Foundational Bootcamp

Bootcamp 1: Introduction to African Digital Humanities

Focus Areas:

Understanding the evolution and scope of Digital Humanities.
Exploring global and African DH landscapes.
Key concepts, methods, and digital tools.
African epistemologies and decolonial digital frameworks.

Level 2: Advanced Masterclasses

Masterclass 1: Teaching in the African Digital Humanities

Focus Areas:

Metaliteracy and critical digital pedagogy.
Integrating digital tools into humanities teaching.
Designing multimodal and metaverse learning environments.

Masterclass 2: Researching in the African Digital Humanities

Focus Areas:

Text analysis and data visualisation.
Spatial humanities (GIS applications).
Social network analysis in cultural and social research.

Masterclass 3: Knowledge Production in the African Digital Humanities

Focus Areas:

Generative AI for content creation.
Digital storytelling and narrative reconstruction.
Digital curation and archiving of African knowledge systems.

Level 3: Applied Innovation and Resource Development

African Digital Humanities Toolkit: A multilingual, multimedia open resource for ongoing professional development.

Afric@DigitalHumanities Open Knowledge Series: An innovative open knowledge series dedicated to curating, documenting, and disseminating pioneering work in the rapidly evolving field. Anchored in open access and epistemic justice, the series provides a home for summit proceedings, training manuals, and experimental non-accredited scholarly outputs.
