Mogoamodimo explicates complexities of life in an intriguing, captivating and absorbing way. Mothoagae gives an account of an orphan who loses both her parents at birth. Her mother, Monape, dies of a heart attack and the father disappears into thin air. Thus Poko, the protagonist, is raised by her grandmother, Motalane, who is destitute. From a very early age she has to endure rebuke, contempt and rejection from some members of the community of Borakalalo village. Her life is constrained between the deep love of her grandmother and the unjust treatment of neighbours who are jealous of her good looks, impeccable character and brilliant mind. What hope of success in life can such a young person expect?
