This section highlights OER on the African continent. There are far fewer OER based in Africa, than what is found internationally. This section only relates to resources found in Africa, excluding South Africa which is dealt with later. This section will list some of the OER based in Africa, followed by a section highlighting some of the African-based Free and Open-Source Software (FOSS) associations and organisations based in Africa.
Although use of OER takes place in South Africa, there are still few contributors to OER from South Africa. Some South African institutions have already been mentioned as participants in OER Africa projects with the support of the South African Institute for Distance Education (SAIDE):
