The Department of Basic Education (DBE), in partnership with the University of South Africa (UNISA), is hosting a G20 Professional Development Seminar that aims to bring together Faculties of Education and government stakeholders, providing a platform to engage with the priorities outlined by the G20 Education Working Group.
This event will build on the January 2025 engagement with Deans and provide an opportunity to enhance collaboration between the Department of Basic Education and teacher educators, especially in aligning teacher education and research with global and national priorities.

PRIORITY 1: QUALITY FOUNDATIONAL LEARNING: THE ROLE OF ECCE TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF FOUNDATIONAL LEARNING
This priority area explores the building blocks of early learning, pre-school, and the initial years of primary education, covering basic literacy, numeracy, and socio-emotional skills.
PRIORITY 3: EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR A CHANGING WORLD
This priority area focuses on professional development as a lifelong learning journey, emphasising teacher retention, enhancing new teacher induction and CPD pathways, and cultivating future-ready 21st-century and transversal skills.
We invite Deans of Education to participate in this event and kindly request that you nominate up to three faculty members to attend, including colleagues involved in Early Childhood Care and Education, teaching practice, curriculum and policy research.
