Placing it research focus on the front burner, Unisa has identified 10 Catalytic Niche Areas (CNA’s), scholarly spheres of strategic importance that constitute a core element of our institutional identity in all our activities. Doing so in service of shaping Africa’s intellectual futures and humanities sustainable development.
The 10 CNA’s enhance academics' experiences as engaged scholars who care to address the diverse needs of our society in South Africa, Africa and the globe. The 2025 Unisa Catalytic Niche Area Research Symposium will provide an interactive platform for a robust conversation between academia, industry, government and civil society.
The College of Graduate Studies (Unisa’s CNA Project Custodians) and the Portfolio of Research, Postgraduate Studies, Innovation and Commercialisation have again joined forces to present the second CNA Symposium.
Under the theme, “Innovating for the Future: Integrating Technology, Sustainability and Humanity”, stakeholders will engage on eminent practical issues that Unisa scholars can seek to resolve through research and innovation.
Postgraduate students will also have an opportunity to be part of the Symposium during two Postgraduate CNA Student Round Tables where they will debate on the Catalytic Niche Areas Interactions and Overlaps of the earlier sessions.
Join us for an engaging Catalytic Niche Area Research Symposium from 30-31 July in the Senate and Dr Miriam Makeba Concert Halls, Muckleneuk campus. Through external involvement by captains of industry, the symposium is intended to open avenues for relevant research and facilitate collaborations and partnerships.
