The Department of Institutional Advancement (DIA), in collaboration with the Eastern Cape Region and colleges, successfully hosted an open day in Qonce (previously King William’s Town) on 5 and 6 June 2026. The event aimed to empower both current and prospective students to make informed decisions about their studies at Unisa. The event provided students with valuable information about a wide range of academic and student support services available at the university.

The open day was widely promoted across social media platforms, resulting in encouraging attendance from prospective students. Many attendees sought assistance with their second-semester applications, while others engaged with university officials to learn more about Unisa’s programmes and services.

Students expressed excitement and appreciation to have Unisa officials visit their town, with many requesting that the university continue expanding its outreach initiatives to bring services closer to communities across the region.

College marketers and regional staff members played an active role throughout the event, interacting with students and assisting them with application processes, programme information and general enquiries.

The open day was a great success, thanks to strong attendance and the significant number of applications processed over the two days. The initiative reinforced Unisa’s commitment to accessible, student-centred engagement and community outreach in the Eastern Cape.
