The university hosted its Orientation Week programme from 23 to 27 February 2026, welcoming new and returning students across regional campuses. The sessions were designed to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to navigate their academic journey successfully.

Throughout the week, students attended a variety of orientation sessions introducing them to the university environment and academic expectations. The programme included presentations on student support services, academic integrity and effective study practices, helping students prepare for the demands of open and distance learning.

During one session, Acting Gauteng Regional Director, Dr Erin Naudé, welcomed students and encouraged them to remain committed to their studies. She emphasised the importance of academic honesty, cautioning against plagiarism and encouraging the responsible use of artificial intelligence tools in academic work.

Orientation Week also featured faculty-specific sessions. Law students attended sessions in dedicated venues to receive guidance tailored to their programmes, while Education students participated in sessions introducing them to teaching-specific resources and expectations. These sessions ensured that students received college-relevant support alongside general orientation information.

Practical sessions formed an important part of the programme, providing hands-on guidance on using myUnisa and other online learning tools. Students learnt how to access study material, participate in online activities and submit assignments.

The week also offered opportunities for students to engage with staff and fellow students, fostering a supportive environment that encouraged questions and interaction. The Orientation Week programme reflected the university's commitment to student success, ensuring that students begin the academic year informed, prepared and supported.
