Unisa to host African Council for Distance Education board meeting

Unisa will host the 44th board meeting of the African Council for Distance Education (ACDE) in Pretoria, South Africa, from 17 to 19 August 2022.

The meeting, during which the Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Unisa and incumbent Treasurer of the ACDE, Prof Puleng LenkaBula, will deliver the welcome address, will commence with a meeting of programme directors on Wednesday 17 August, followed by committee meetings on Thursday 18 August and culminate with the full board meeting on Friday 19 August 2022.

The ACDE is a continental educational organisation comprising African universities and other higher education institutions, which are committed to expanding access to quality education and training through open, distance and e-learning (ODeL).

Formally launched in January 2004 and headquartered in Kenya, its establishment was underpinned by the desire of African vice-chancellors to establish a unifying body that would facilitate and promote the pooling of resources, shaping and influencing continental policies on distance education, and collectively sourcing for and tapping into resources available from the national, regional and international community for the advancement of education and training through ODeL.

On Thursday 18 August 2022, Unisa will host a gala dinner during which a memorandum of understanding (MOU) will be concluded between itself and the Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU). The main thrust of this bilateral agreement will be to establish collaboration in a number of key areas.
