The University of South Africa (Unisa) Eastern Cape Region strengthened its engagement with the local business community during a stakeholder evening hosted in partnership with the Border Kei Business Chamber.

The event brought together businesses, entrepreneurs and professionals from the region, creating a platform for networking, knowledge sharing and discussions around opportunities for collaboration between higher education and the business sector.

Eastern Cape Regional Director Dr Makwena Molotja used the occasion to provide stakeholders with an overview of Unisa's strategic priorities, qualification offerings and the application process for the 2027 academic year.

Her presentation highlighted how the University's comprehensive range of academic programmes can support individuals seeking to advance their careers, acquire new skills or pursue further academic qualifications. It also provided businesses with greater insight into how Unisa can contribute to the development of a skilled workforce.

Adding to the discussion, Solvin Ndou from the Unisa Centre for Lifelong Learning (UCL) showcased the Centre's range of short learning programmes. The presentation highlighted opportunities for professionals to strengthen their expertise and remain responsive to changing skills requirements in their respective fields.

For Unisa, the engagement was more than an opportunity to showcase its offerings. It provided a valuable platform to listen to the needs of the local business community, strengthen existing relationships and identify areas where the University and industry can work together.

The stakeholder evening also contributed to raising awareness of Unisa's diverse academic and professional development opportunities among businesses and professionals in the Border Kei area.

Strong partnerships between universities and the business sector are increasingly important in responding to changing skills demands and supporting regional development. Through engagements such as these, Unisa continues to position itself as a partner in lifelong learning, skills development and the broader socio-economic development of the communities it serves.
