The countdown to the third Unisa National Strings Music Competition has begun

The clock is ticking as the countdown to the third Unisa National String Music Competition begins. Due to the current pandemic circumstances, the event will unfortunately be closed to the public. Only the jury, candidates, and accompanists will be permitted into the hall. However, you can still enjoy all the performances in the comfort of your home by viewing the live stream on YouTube.

The competition starts with round 1 of the classical category on Saturday, 14 August 2021, followed by round 1 of the jazz category on the following day, and culminating in the final round and award ceremony on 21 August.

Twenty entrants, ten in each category, will compete for the prize money provided by Unisa.

Two separate juries will adjudicate the two categories: classical (violin/cello) and jazz (guitar/bass).

The requirements and procedures for the competition will correspond closely to the requirements and procedures for the sixth Unisa International Strings Competition, which will take place in 2022.

The Unisa Music Foundation presents national music competitions in exactly the same format as its international music competitions with the specific aim to accustom young South African musicians to the stringent standards applied internationally.
