Legendary heroine of the people celebrated by latter-day peers

The Charlotte Mannya-Maxeke Institute recently hosted a lecture delivered by Dr Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, former Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa, former Executive Director for UN Women and current Chancellor of the University of Johannesburg. The lecture, themed “What an educated African girl can do” was an integral part of the institute’s celebration of the 2022 Charlotte Mannya-Maxeke Week, an annual event aimed at celebrating the legacy of this struggle stalwart and heroine of the people.

Representatives of various organisations and institutions attended a lecture recently hosted by the Charlotte Mannya-Maxeke Institute. The lecture was part of the institute’s celebration of 2022 Charlotte Mannya-Maxeke Week.

Unisa Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Puleng LenkaBula, was one of the dynamic respondents to the lecture, along with other key women intellectuals such as Advocate Kholeka Gcaleka, the Deputy Public Protector, and Fasiha Hassan, a member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature. The Honourable Minister of Small Business Development, Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams, delivered the closing remarks.

Dr Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, former Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa, former Executive Director for UN Women and current Chancellor of UJ was the keynote speaker at the lecture themed “What an educated African girl can do”.
