The College of Accounting Sciences (CAS) continues to strengthen its reputation as a hub of academic excellence, with yet another significant recognition awarded to one of its leading departments. The Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa (IIA SA) has presented the Department of Auditing with a prestigious token of appreciation in acknowledgement of its outstanding contribution to the internal auditing profession. This honour reinforces the department’s longstanding commitment to developing future-ready graduates and advancing thought leadership in the discipline.

The college extends its heartfelt appreciation to the Department of Auditing’s staff for their tireless efforts, unwavering dedication and the pursuit of excellence. Their collective effort has played a crucial role in elevating the department to national prominence and ensuring that CAS remains a leader in the field of accounting sciences.

Dr Audrey Legodi, Chair of the Department of Auditing, received the award on behalf of the department. Legodi’s leadership continues to strengthen academic impact and professional engagement of the department. The recognition is especially meaningful given the department’s scale and influence.

As the academic home to the largest cohort of auditing students in Africa, and the department with the highest number of academic staff in the field, the accolade affirms its central role in shaping the auditing profession in South Africa and beyond. The department also distinguishes itself through its strong professional expertise, with eight staff members holding the esteemed certified internal auditor designations.

This achievement follows recent institutional and global successes that highlight the college’s strong performance. CAS was also recognised at the 2025 CGMA Accounting Educator Awards for its excellence and innovation in accounting education. Together, these accomplishments demonstrate that the college is operating at its peak, with its academic and professional contributions receiving well-deserved recognition.
