Qualification admission requirements

Your admission to Unisa is dependent on you meeting the specific admission requirements for your chosen qualification.

A Senior Certificate with exemption, as well as an appropriate accredited Bachelor's degree (360 or 480 credits) or equivalent National Diploma (360 or 480 credits) with Information Systems completed up to third year level and Chemistry or Physics or Biological Sciences or Computer Science (software and programming) completed up to second year level. In addition to above requirements, you also must have completed English up to first year level, as well as well as Computer Literacy skills up to first year level. Applications and registrations for this qualification is online ONLY and no self-help or personal applications or registrations will be accepted. Students who do not meet all the requirements, should rather consider applying for a Bachelor of Education degree.

Student fees and funding your studies

Application fee

Pay the application fee once you've received your student number:

  • R115 for online applications
  • R170 for hard copy applications (hard copy applications will only be considered in exceptional cases)

Please note that this application fee is non-refundable even if you decide not to study through Unisa, do not qualify for admission to Unisa or cannot be offered a space due to limited spaces available.

Apply for admission

Unisa's application model is open and continuous, which means that applications remain open throughout the year.

Please take note of the following:

  • During the period 3 January to 7 March 2020, all applications for admission must be submitted online. No self-help stations will be available for applications at the regional offices.
  • Admission to a qualification is not automatic. It will depend on whether you comply with the admission requirements and if space is available.
  • Not all qualifications are available all the time. Only the qualifications where there is space available will be available on the online application form.


Additional support for this qualification via TVET colleges

Unisa has an agreement with various Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges to offer classes in a selected number of qualifications. These classes have proved to generally improve the throughput rate of students who enrol for them.

Take note of the following:

  • Make sure that your TVET college of choice offers support in your qualification. 
  • Apply for admission during Unisa's application period via your TVET college or via Unisa.
