Taking place from 15 to 17 August 2023, both virtually and in-person, at Emperors Palace, near OR Tambo International Airport in Gauteng, the conference explores the theme, "ODeL in the Global South: Opportunities in times of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA)".

Given the scope and unpredictability of institutional and societal change in recent years, the conference theme is likely to resonate with ODeL scholars and researchers in South Africa, the rest of Africa, the Global South and beyond.

This academic conference, which will be preceded by pre-conference workshops on Monday 14 August 2023, will give established and upcoming ODeL scholars and researchers the opportunity to explore innovative approaches to conducting teaching, learning, research and community engagement in a complex and frequently turbulent environment.

In her role as Higher Education Commissioner, Mohee is responsible for monitoring 52 public and private universities in Mauritius.

She holds an engineering degree in Energy and Environment from the Grande Ecole d'Ingénieurs at the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Lyon, France (under a French scholarship), and a PhD from the University of Mauritius. Mohee has 25 years of academic experience as a Professor and Head of Department in the field of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, and served as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering from 2009 to 2012. She has also held the position of National Research Chair in Solid Waste Management at the Mauritius Research Council.

Mohee has published over 75 international research and conference papers, edited two books and four book chapters, and has to date supervised more than 50 undergraduate and 30 master's and doctoral students in the field of energy and environmental engineering.

Her expertise has been recognised both nationally and regionally. Mohee has been Vice-President of the Maurice Ile Durable Steering Committee and has held the position of environmental assessor for the Environment and Land Use tribunal. She is a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK) and has been invited several times as the key speaker at international workshops and conferences. She was highly involved in the Rio +20 conference preparatory meeting for Africa.

Mohee has carried out more than 20 major consultancy projects in the field of environmental science and engineering and has received a number of awards and recognitions.
