Purpose: The purpose of this module is to equip students with advanced knowledge and understanding of management, administration, supervision, and project management related to aspects of social work practice. The module will enable qualifying students to understand different types of management styles, skills and roles relating to planning, organising, staffing, monitoring and evaluation within organisations. Qualifying students will ethically manage professional relationships, available resources, compile a business plan and funding proposal as well as effectively utilise supervision to enhance social work service delivery.

Purpose: The module will equip students with advanced practical knowledge, skills, attitudes and principles of social work practice to identify, assess, plan, implement, evaluate and terminate appropriate social work intervention processes with individual, couples, families, groups and communities under social work supervision at welfare practice setting. Qualifying students will be able to apply various theories, approaches and models in social work practice from a developmental approach. Students will be able to integrate theory into practice relevant to policies and legislation pertaining to social work practice utilising different levels of intervention within different areas of intervention, fields of practice and levels of social welfare delivery to deal with social issues amongst client systems of different sizes.
Introduction to the Landscape of Social Work Practice - BSW1503

Purpose: The purpose of this module is to expose students to social work practice guided by the professional code of ethics at the individual, family, group, organisation, and community levels. Students who complete this module will be able to gain self-awareness and demonstrate basic social work knowledge through the completion of activities in a workbook. They will also be able to understand the levels of service delivery and methods of intervention and human diversity. The studentsメ visitation to welfare organisations for 40 hours of observation and voluntary work will enable them to understand the operationalisation of social work in practice. Furthermore, role plays conducted in small group laboratory settings will facilitate their understanding and skills practice of communication. (No direct practice is conducted in this module.

Purpose: The purpose of this module is to equip students with knowledge of the different pieces of legislation pertaining to children and families who require statutory intervention and with knowledge and skills in report writing for statutory purposes. Students who successfully complete this module will be able to critically examine the important sections relevant to social work intervention espoused in the different acts, and they will also be able to critically appraise social work statutory reports and analyse case studies in view of writing social work reports for statutory purposes.

Purpose: The purpose of this module is to equip students with advanced knowledge about macro social welfare and social work policy within a global, regional and local context while upholding the basic values enshrined in the Bill of Rights in the South African Constitution. Qualifying students will assess and critically appraise development challenges globally, continentally, regionally and nationally in relation to appropriate policies around different social issues as well as the influence and implementation of macro policy on social welfare and service delivery.
