Purpose: The purpose is to make students aware of the importance of transportation engineering and its influence on civil engineering. The student will gain valuable knowledge to distinguish between the different types of transport systems and transport structures and identify and define the problems associated with them. The students will also be able to provide a number of engineering solutions to the problems associated with these transport systems and structures. The student will also gain knowledge in different modes of transport, route location, surveys and setting out, traffic engineering, pavement management and basic geometric design. Upon successful completion of the course the student should be able to work well in a real life work environment.
