Purpose: The purpose of this module is to develop a theoretical approach to understand criminal behaviour and contributory factors which increase the risk of crime. This module will enable students to acquire well-rounded and systematic knowledge that will enhance continued personal growth. Students who qualify in this module will be equipped with the attitude, general and specific skills that expand their theoretical conception of criminology that explain crime in various fields of criminal justice. This module provides students with the theoretical approaches in the understanding of the criminological risk factors. It provides students with an in-depth insight on how the environment and social background can influence criminal behaviour. This module embraces epistemological diversity and transformation. The principles of Ubuntu, Social responsibility, Graduateness, Human rights, Humanizing the law and Africanisation are enthused in the learning material and assessment practices.
