Purpose: This module deals with sustainable landscapes in urban green space, and justifies how sustainable horticulture practices and principles can enhance environmental, economic and social sustainability. Students studying this module will be able to: investigate the influence of horticulture in the protection of the environment, biosphere and biodiversity, and suggest sustainable strategies for the conservation of urban green space; Identify and apply site rehabilitation principles and practices during both landscape development projects and the rehabilitation of damaged/degraded landscapes; Acknowledge and evaluate the aspects that contribute towards the sustainable development of landscape projects in urban green space; Integrate economic and socio-economic principles and practices into the design and development of landscapes to ensure the sustainability of urban green space.
