| Purpose: To provide scholarly insight into the intellectual ferment and cultural changes, which animate creativity in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, as manifested in popular narrative discourses. The phenomenon of popular narratives will be studied in their own right. In order to stimulate independent thinking, an awareness of the ways in which popular narratives reflect a variety of perspectives on cultural trends and phenomena will be examined. Students will be guided through the study of selected popular narrative discourses and the respective theoretical frameworks pertinent to analysing these.
