Purpose: The purpose is to make students aware of the importance of earthworks and pavements and their influence on civil engineering. The student will gain valuable knowledge to distinguish between the different types of pavements and the different ways of doing earthworks and identify and define the problems associated with them. The students will also be able to provide a number of engineering solutions to the problems associated with these pavements and carrying out earthworks. The students will also gain valuable knowledge road drainage, culverts, earthworks and layer works, road material stabilization, structural design of road pavements, and road surfacing. Upon successful completion of the course the student should be able to work well in a real life work environment.
