| Purpose: The purpose of this module is to enable students to learn about the uses, values, health care and maintenance of trees including the legislation that governs trees in urban areas. Qualifying students will be able to determine the benefits of trees in the urban environment; recommend trees for urban spaces for different purposes (park and street trees); compile and apply tree planting guidelines and methods; differentiate between types of trees in urban areas; use tree assessment and appraisal techniques to determine the value of trees; apply tree surgery techniques; prune trees; transplant large trees; identify tree pests and diseases and apply management techniques to prevent and control these pests and comply with the relevant legislation that governs arboricultural activities in urban areas. | |||
