Purpose: Students who achieve the outcomes of this module will be able to identify and describe animal agriculture and define production systems and their many roles on food security and sustainable development at farm level and for the development of the local livestock industry. The module will also give insights on the various factors that influence farming systems which promote the application of environmentally friendly livestock production procedures for sustainable land use and conservation of agricultural resources for a viable, profitable and sustainable livestock industry. The module will be useful to livestock technicians, livestock extension workers, development workers in non-governmental organisations, and those who are responsible for farm animal welfare and production.
