The Potchefstroom office supporting students wherever they are - prospective and returning students waiting patiently to be assisted by staff members
The Unisa Midlands Region has embarked on a mobile applications drive for 2026, assisting both prospective and current students with admission and tuition-related matters. The services being offered include application tracking, retrieving forgotten student numbers, sharing banking details and applications fee payments. The regional team also assists with uploading documents, online tuition fee payments, and accepting/declining admission offers.
The Potchefstroom Regional Service Centre started with the mobile support under Dr Kenneth Kaunda District on 9 September 2025 at the Klerksdorp Library, followed by Tigane Public Library on 11 September 2025 and the College of Agriculture (in Potchefstroom) on 17 September 2025. The services will also extend to the Ventersdorp Public Library on 25 September 2025 and Wolmaransstad Public Library on 7 October 2025.
Furthermore, the 2026 application cycle includes addressing features such as APS calculation, limited intake per course, a three-choice qualification ranking, strict offer acceptance within 10 working days, and compulsory Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) for first-year students. These features align with available system functionalities for managing admissions and ensuring a more transparent and efficient process.
The enticing part is that the system for the 2026 intake allows both returning and prospective students to apply for three different qualification choices
The initiative is a collaborative effort between internal and external stakeholders supporting Unisa’s mission and vision, ensuring that as a comprehensive open and distance e-learning (CODeL) institution, it shapes futures in the service of humanity.
Also, the initiative assists in addressing socioeconomic challenges by bringing services closer to communities. This has been done successfully by the Potchefstroom Regional Service Centre staff, led by its office coordinator.
As an ODeL institution, Unisa continues to embrace technology to reduce long queues and promote the use of mobile tools for convenience and accessibility. This mobile drive is a step forward in preparing for the 2026 student intake.
