Beekeepers from the Ga-Selwane community attended digital skills training at the Polokwane Campus

Unisa's North Eastern Region recently hosted a three-day digital skills training workshop for the Kgarimatweng Beekeeping Network from Ga-Selwane Village, Limpopo. The training conducted at the Polokwane Campus is aimed at improving the computer literacy and digital skills of participants, equipping them with the necessary tools to manage their beekeeping project effectively.

Unisa and various partner organisations are involved in the beekeeping training activities for the benefit of youth from the Seloane tribal community. The partner organisations are the Mineworkers Development Agency (MDA), the South African Local Government Association (SALGA), Tombi Seleka Agricultural College, South African Women in Dialogue (SAWID), the Unisa Women's Forum (UWF) and the local tribal authority.

Through the collaboration, the beekeepers gain agricultural and digital skills and various other skills that contribute to their professional development.

According to Billy Mahlase, a member of the Kgarimatweng Beekeeping Network, the training is helpful for the effective management of their project and empowering them to adapt to a changing economic environment.

Members of the Kgarimatweng Beekeeping Network expressed their appreciation for the training, with some indicating that it would enable them to expand their reach beyond local markets.
