College of Accounting Sciences celebrates esteemed awards
The College of Accounting Sciences (CAS) is delighted to acknowledge the incredible efforts of outstanding staff members who consistently give their best. This year alone, the college received more than five awards, including Unisa’s 2023 Teaching and Learning Festival Awards, Academic of the Year Award from the Association for the Advancement of Black Accountants in South Africa (ABASA), a certificate of recognition from the Southern African Institute of Government Auditors (SAIGA), full accreditation by the South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA) and full accreditation from the Association for Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
College Engaged Scholarship Best Practice for 2022 - Research on Audit Committees South Africa (RACSA), Prof Lourens Erasmus, together with colleagues from Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), Dr Audrey Legodi and Clara Msiza (Unisa)
The college applauds the dedicated individuals who received awards on behalf of the college. These include the members of the college’s Engaged Scholarship who received prestigious awards during the Engaged Scholarship Best Awards hosted by the Community Engagement and Outreach Office. The college recognises engaged scholarship as an opportunity to contribute to its communities while ensuring that its core business, namely research and teaching, remains relevant.
Refilwe Ncube received the Engaged Scholarship Admin Officer Award
The college’s Engaged Scholarship stars were out in full force as they shone brightly at the appreciation gala. Samson Mapheto, Engaged Scholarship Manager, received the College Engaged Scholarship Management and Administration Appreciation Award, and Refilwe Ncube received the Engaged Scholarship Admin Officer Award. Prof Lourens Erasmus received the College Engaged Scholarship Best Practice for 2022 for the project Research on Audit Committees South Africa (RACSA), a research project that examined the factors that influence the effectiveness of the public sector audit committees in South Africa.
CAS’s Executive Dean, Dr Moses Hlongoane, congratulated members of the Engaged Scholarship in the college. Hlongoane stated that members’ hard work and excellence have made the college proud and put the college and the institution on the map. He said: "Although the awards bear the names of individual staff members, it also indicates the work being done in the college by fellow staff members." The Executive Dean expressed the college’s most profound gratitude to the recipients for their exceptional contributions and thanked them for making the institution shine and for being valuable assets.
