Appeal to donate to the Unisa Ubuntu-Botho Disaster Initiative

Dear Unisans

You may be aware of the appeal made by Unisa’s Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mandla Makhanya, to Unisa staff, students, alumni and the general public to make donations to the Unisa Ubuntu/Botho Disaster Relief Initiative to alleviate the hardships being experienced in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi following the havoc wreaked by Cyclone Idai.

The Gift of the Givers organisation has informed the university that in order to effectively help communities consistently, particularly after the disaster, the following is still required:

  1. Cash donations. It is significantly more cost effective to buy items in Mozambique in terms of logistical costs and time.
  2. Dry food items such as rice, pasta, tinned food and maize meal.
  3. Hygiene items such as soap, tooth paste, wash cloths, tooth brushes, wet wipes, etc.

The details of the various drop-off and collection points across the country are as follows:

Unisa Muckleneuk Campus (Preller Street, Muckleneuk, Pretoria)

  • Kgorong Building, first floor
