Welcome to Astronomy

The UNISA Astronomy group is growing rapidly and we recently established UCASS: the UNISA Centre for Astrophysics and Space Science. Our research interests include star-formation, masers, galaxy evolution and cosmology. We make use of world-class telescopes around the world and in space, with particularly strong contributions in radio astronomy.  Opportunities to study Astronomy include modules at the undergraduate level within the BSc and BEd programs, a full BSc (Hons) program as well as MSc and PhD programs by dissertation.

We love to share our knowledge of Astronomy! Please contact us to arrange an outreach activity.

The UNISA Astronomy group includes researchers with interests in masers, star-formation, galaxy evolution and cosmology. Current staff members include Prof James Chibueze, Prof Catherine Cress, Dr Zolile Mguda, Prof Amos Kubeka and Dr Sthabile Kolwa.
