Adv Kgagudi Morota
Head of the Clinic

It is with great pride and a deep sense of responsibility that I welcome you to the UNISA Law Clinic.

At the UNISA Law Clinic, we are steadfast in our commitment to advancing clinical legal education, access to justice, and community-centred legal service. Rooted within the distinguished framework of the College of Law at the University of South Africa, we operate with a clear vision: to bridge the gap between legal theory and practice while responding meaningfully to the socio-economic realities of our country and the broader African continent.

Our Clinic serves a dual purpose. Firstly, it provides high-quality, supervised practical training to our Candidate Legal Practitioners and law students, equipping them with the ethical foundation, professional competence, and social consciousness required of legal practitioners. Secondly, it exists to serve vulnerable and marginalised communities by offering accessible legal assistance, thereby promoting constitutional values, human dignity, and equality before the law.

We recognise the unique legal landscape within which we operate, one shaped by historical inequalities and ongoing social transformation. Guided by the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, we strive to cultivate practitioners who are not only legally proficient but also deeply committed to social justice and transformative constitutionalism.

Through structured mentorship, practical exposure, community outreach initiatives, and strategic partnerships, the UNISA Law Clinic fosters a culture of excellence, integrity, and service. We believe that legal education must extend beyond the classroom and actively contribute to the development of a more just and equitable society.

Our mission is clear: to deliver a socially responsive clinical legal education experience that empowers future legal professionals while ensuring that access to justice is not a privilege, but a right realised in practice.

I thank you for engaging with the UNISA Law Clinic. Whether you are a student, a Candidate Legal Practitioner, a member of the community, or a stakeholder partner, we look forward to working together in strengthening the rule of law and shaping a better tomorrow.

Together, let us continue to advance justice with purpose, integrity, and excellence.
