COMSA on its way to greater heights

As 2020 gets underway, the executive members of the UNISA Communications Student Association (COMSA) have promised an exciting year ahead for communications students. The executive members recently held their first meeting, discussing the annual plan, how to go about expanding the organisation, and ways in which they would reach out to students in the communications field.

COMSA, housed in the College of Human Sciences, is an academic student structure that aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice, and to promote communication as a career among students. Their goal is to ensure that students are exposed to the practical side of their qualification which is mainly just offered in theory. This practical exposure incorporates various elements within the communication and marketing field, such as inviting media personalities to speak to students or arranging workshops and seminars presented by top media and communication professionals for communications students.

COMSA commits itself to reaching greater heights by ensuring that the students of the university are well informed of the association and that they participate in the activities. A recent awareness campaign was held by the executive members at the Unisa Sunnyside Campus, where they marketed the association, and also assisted both returning and first time students with their academic enquiries.

The COMSA team says they are looking forward to making this year yet another fulfilling, proactive and a dynamic year for COMSA. “Growth, learning and empowerment is what we aim to achieve.”
