The Department of Educational Foundations (DEF) is an intellectually vibrant space, offering expertise in four core areas: Philosophy of Education, Sociology of Education, International and Comparative Education, and History of Education.
It also includes specialists in emerging fields such as Gender and Sexuality in Education and Higher Education Studies. Our goal is to nurture critical thinkers who can meaningfully contribute to their communities, particularly in the digital age.
As Acting Chair of the Department, I, Stanley T. Ngobeni, am dedicated to advancing DEF through research, academic excellence, and student support. I aim to build a supportive environment for staff and foster collaborations with academic institutions and student organizations to increase DEF’s global recognition.
