Other

Itumeleng Innocentia Setlhodi holds a Doctor of Education in educational studies. Her doctoral research was concerned with exploring the role of school leaders in employing institutional values to eradicate underperformance. She holds a post matric technical qualification in civil engineering and has worked within the technical education space prior joining the department of basic education as a principal of a school. She turned an ailing school around and proceeded to lead another school where she managed through good performance under her tutelage, the school specializing in Mathematics and Sciences. She is a registered constituent assessor and moderator with the services SETA.

She tutored for the Rand Afrikaans University and worked for Mathew Goniwe School of Leadership and Governance where she was involved in Leadership development and school governing bodies’ development as a train the trainer and leading training teams in various provinces. She was also involved in training material development, monitoring and evaluation of training. She served as a Policy head for the National Association of School Governing bodies (NASGOB). Currently, she is a member of the Education Management Association of South Africa (EMASA) executive member serving as a head of research and is working on establishing a Leadership and Management journal, which is housed at the college of education, University of Kwazulu Natal, with Prof Chikoko as its editor. She is representing EMASA at the Department of Basic Education Heads of Departments’ Committee (HEDCOM) sub-committee of school calendars. She is also participated in the development of the new qualification for school principals for the Department of Basic Education (DBE) as well as participates in the Teacher induction programme development as well as principal induction programme development as part of stakeholders on behalf of EMASA. She also heads a community engagement project titled: learner leadership development in schools co-run with MGSLG (a MoU is in place between Unisa and MGSLG in this regard). She developed a SACE registered short learning course titled: Short Course for Youth Leadership Development (SCYLD1A) linked to this project for training of teacher liaison officers (TLOs) and other youth trainers in the community, which is offered through the Center for Continuing Education and Training (CCET) within the college of education.

Itumeleng has supervised Masters and Doctoral students to completion. She continues to review NRF projects applications on a call basis and reviews papers and book chapters for various journals and publishing houses. She also serves as an external examiner for Masters and Doctoral qualifications for various institutions of higher learning.

She serves as an executive board member of a registered not for profit organisation named, walkable journey initiatives programme (WJIP) for people infected and affected by cancer.
