The Department of Financial Accounting is part of the School of Accountancy in the College of Accounting Sciences. The Department offers a number of undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications with majors in financial accounting, each having its own unique contribution to the professional business environment.

In the Department of Financial Accounting we are committed to serving our students with a quality learning experience through our highly skilled, experienced and innovative team of lecturers and administrative staff. The Department also

• supports the University in fulfilling its social responsibility towards the South African business community;
• undertakes research commissioned by the business community and/or research in respect of accounting studies and taxation;
• provides community service;
• uses distance teaching as the main method of instruction in executing this task; and
• performs its task in partnership with the staff of the School of Accounting and the School of Applied Accounting, as well as the University as a whole.
