Admission requirements

Qualification admission requirements

Your admission to Unisa is dependent on you meeting the specific admission requirements for your chosen qualification.

An appropriate accredited Bachelor's degree (360 or 480 credits) with Biology (Botany with Zoology) completed up to third year level (with Chemistry 1),
AND
Mathematics completed up to second year level.

(Students who have also completed Microbiology or Biochemistry up to third year level with Biology and Mathematics completed up to second year level and Chemistry up to first level may also apply).

Or

Equivalent National Diploma in Biotechnology or Diploma in Biotechnology (360 credits) from an accredited institution with Biology and Mathematics completed up to second year level and Chemistry up to first level may also apply),
AND
Mathematics completed up to second year level and Chemistry up to first level may also apply.
Students who do not meet all the above requirements should rather consider applying for a Bachelor of Education degree.
Please note: Please note from 2026 the National N Diploma is not acceptable for admission to a PGCE.

Application fee

Pay the application fee once you've received your student number:

  • R150 for online applications
  • Use the 8 digit student number you receive from Unisa AND the application fee reference number (ie YOUR 8 digit STUDENT NUMBER 5370810030)
  • Send the proof of payment to susdepid@unisa.ac.za
  • Visit www.unisa.ac.za/paymentinfo for banking details and payment information

Please note that this application fee is non-refundable even if you decide not to study through Unisa, do not qualify for admission to Unisa or cannot be offered a space due to limited spaces available.
